Playing for the first time as the home team in the postseason worked out in dramatic fashion for the Rams softball team. In a game that had great pitching performances on both sides, the score remained tied at zero through 6 innings of action.
In the 7th inning, Dowling Catholic was able to score a run after getting their lead off hitter on base on an error. Dowling then sacrificed their runner to second base and she was able to advance to third on a passed ball. The run came on a fielder's choice, as the runner was moving on the hit and the only play was at first base.
The Rams came up to bat in the bottom of the 7th having only one hit thus far in the game. Hannah Parker lead off the inning with a single and was replaced by Grace Metts as a pinch runner. She was able to advance to second on a wild pitch. Kali Lange then delivered a single to score the Rams first run and tie the game. Lange advanced to second on a passed ball and then moved to third when Brooke French struck out but the Dowling catcher dropped the third strike and had to throw down to first for the out. Katie Burdick then delivered a game winning single to bring Lange to the plate for a victory celebration.
The Rams will now face Johnston for the State Championship at 7pm this evening on Mittera Field at Harlan Rogers Park. The game will be televised on IPTV.
