In baseball sometimes all that is needed is one run. Tonight the Rams used their one lone run to advance to the semifinal round of the State Tournament behind solid pitching and defense throughout the evening.
SEP was the visitor in their match-up with Cedar Rapids Kennedy and made the most of the first at bat, with Anthony Schneider leading off with a single. On a pick off attempt, the Cougars committed their first of 3 errors on the evening, throwing the ball down the first base line and allowing Schneider to advance to third base. Cody Hyler then delivered a ground ball to the right side of the infield resulting in a fielder's choice and a run scored for the Rams.
Both teams received solid pitching from that point forward with Nick Arnold going the distance for the Rams. He faced a serious threat from Kennedy in the 6th inning when their first two hitters reached base with hits. With runners at second and third, Arnold got a strikeout to record the first out of the inning. The next batter walked to load the bases and then Arnold induced a ground ball to TJ Fetters who started a double play to end the inning.
SEP advances to the State Semifinal against Dubuque Hempstead on Friday evening at 8 pm.
